The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a warning about unstable weather conditions expected to persist across the country for several days due to a weak trough of low pressure lingering over the eastern and northern regions of the Fiji group. The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi reported at 5:30 am today that this system is bringing clouds and showers to many parts of the nation.
The weather bulletin indicated that the associated cloud cover and showers will continue to affect the islands over the coming days. Residents in locations such as Navua, Suva, Nausori, Korovou, Tailevu, Serua, Namosi, and Naitasiri, along with areas in Ra, Macuata, Cakaudrove, Taveuni, and the nearby smaller islands, can expect showers today. The frequency of these showers is forecasted to increase tonight, with the likelihood of occasional thunderstorms across most areas.
In other regions, while the weather is expected to remain generally fine, isolated afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms could still occur, raising the possibility of localized heavy rainfall in certain areas.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, continuous showers and isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over much of the country, particularly affecting the Central, Northern, and Eastern divisions. Citizens are being urged to take necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone regions, as localized heavy falls could lead to flash flooding.
The current weather situation serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness of Fijian climatic conditions and emphasizes the importance of staying informed about weather updates. As communities prepare for the potential impacts of this weather, there is hope that the incoming rain will provide essential resources for agriculture, supporting the resilience of local farmers and communities. Residents are encouraged to stay alert and take measures to ensure their safety during this unpredictable weather period.
