Fiji is currently grappling with unsettled weather conditions that include strong winds and heavy rain. Last night, a gust of wind reaching 70 kilometers per hour was recorded in Nadi, according to the Fiji Meteorological Service. This extreme weather contributed to the collapse of a power post belonging to Energy Fiji Limited in Sabeto, near Muslim Primary School, around 11:15 PM. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries, but local authorities have urged residents to remain cautious while navigating these turbulent conditions.

In a recent update from the Weather Office, the previously issued heavy rain warning for the entire Fiji Group has been downgraded to a heavy rain alert. It appears that a trough of low pressure, along with associated clouds and rain, continues to influence the weather in the region. Residents should still expect sporadic rain across most areas, along with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms and localized heavy downpours.

While the weather remains unpredictable, the transition from a warning to an alert brings a glimmer of hope that conditions may be on the mend. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and prepared, while embracing the prospect that the worst may soon be behind them.
