A heavy rain alert spanning the entire Fiji Group has been issued, with flash flood warnings specifically targeting low-lying and flood-prone areas, along with smaller streams. The active trough of low pressure related to TD03F has already begun to affect the nation, resulting in overcast skies and sporadic rainfall. Given the already saturated ground from previous rains, the additional heavy precipitation could lead to flash flooding in vulnerable areas and downstream of major rivers.
As the disturbance nears from the west, rain frequency is expected to rise, impacting all of Fiji by Wednesday. This exacerbates flooding risks for significant rivers, roadways, and crossings, which may disrupt transportation services, business activities, and access to essential resources.
In addition to the anticipated heavy rainfall, strong winds are predicted to start on Tuesday, with gusts possibly reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour across regions such as Vanua Levu, Viti Levu, and the Yasawa, Mamanuca, northern Lau, and Lomaiviti Groups. Mariners are advised to brace for northeast winds of 15 to 20 knots, which could intensify to 30 knots with gusts up to 40 knots, leading to moderate to rough seas and reduced visibility during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
