A severe rain warning has been issued for the entire Fiji Group, leading officials to advise the public to remain vigilant as the region experiences unstable weather conditions. The Fiji Meteorological Service has declared a flash flood warning for all of Viti Levu, highlighting the potential risks associated with the ongoing weather system.

Particularly at risk are low-lying and flood-prone regions, such as those near the Nakauvadra River in Rakiraki Town, the Naseyani area along the Yaqara River, and areas near the Tavua River and the flood plains of the Ba River. Flood alerts are also in place for vulnerable zones adjacent to the Nadi, Nawaka, and Tuva rivers in Nadroga.

In addition to the heavy rain warnings, a strong wind warning has been announced for various land areas within the Western Division. This includes the Yasawa and Mamanuca Islands, Kadavu, and several smaller adjacent islands, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Macuata, Bua, and Taveuni. An active trough of low pressure, coupled with accompanying rainbands and strong northwesterly winds, continues to affect the region.

Wind speeds in the Western Division are expected to be robust, averaging around 45 km/h, with gusts potentially reaching up to 75 km/h. However, forecasters anticipate that conditions will gradually moderate later in the day.

In light of the forecasts, authorities are urging the public to follow official weather warnings closely, exercise caution around flooded areas and river crossings, and implement necessary safety measures as the weather situation unfolds. As Fiji braces for these challenges, the resilience and preparedness of local communities will be essential in navigating the potential impacts of the severe weather.
