Fiji Braces for Possible Weak La Niña as 2025–26 Wet Season Nears

A La Niña watch is currently in effect, with forecasts indicating the potential development of weak La Niña conditions from October to December 2025. This prediction is outlined in the Fiji Climate Outlook for the October 2025 to March 2026 period, which was released recently by the Fiji Meteorological Service.

La Niña is known for cooler-than-normal sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean, which can drastically influence weather patterns, leading to changes in wind patterns, ocean currents, and rainfall distributions across various regions.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has projected normal to above-normal rainfall across much of the Fiji Group this October, with a likelihood of continued enhanced rainfall into December 2025.
