The Fiji Police Force has announced a public advisory regarding a significant mock search and rescue operation scheduled for Saturday, 15 November 2025, in Suva Harbour. Residents and business owners in Suva, particularly in the central business district, are urged to be aware of increased emergency activity as various agencies collaborate for this essential training exercise aimed at enhancing their capabilities for maritime emergencies.
The exercise will take place from 8 AM to 1 PM and will involve synchronized efforts from law enforcement, emergency services, and maritime partners. The objective is to evaluate and improve the coordination of responses in the event of large-scale incidents occurring on the water. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe, emphasized that this initiative is part of ongoing national preparedness efforts designed to bolster real-time collaboration among first responders.
“In light of the upcoming drill, the public should expect to see more emergency and law enforcement vehicles in motion during the morning hours. We encourage everyone not to be alarmed, as these activities are strategically planned,” stated ACP Vusonilawe. Notably, given that Saturday coincides with a busy shopping day, the Fiji Police Force has confirmed that traffic officers will be deployed along main routes to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles and minimize any potential disruptions.
This mock search and rescue operation is part of a larger commitment by the government and emergency agencies to improve overall readiness, communication systems, and efficient crisis response related to maritime situations. Residents and business owners are advised to stay alert to the exercise and comply with instructions provided by officers on duty.
Highlighting the Fiji Police Force’s commitment to public safety and community collaboration, this exercise underscores a proactive strategy aimed at ultimately benefiting all as the festive season approaches. By focusing on preparedness and effective responsiveness, authorities are working together to create a safer environment for residents and visitors alike.
