The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a heavy rain alert affecting various regions of the country, warning citizens of potential flash flooding and travel disruptions in the coming days. This alert, announced at 3 PM today, primarily impacts the eastern part of Viti Levu, extending from Serua and Namosi through Navua, Suva, Nausori, and into Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra. It also encompasses the Yasawa Group, the Northern Division, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands.

Meteorologists from the Nadi Weather Office report that a trough of low pressure is situated over eastern Fiji and is anticipated to strengthen throughout the day, bringing increased cloud cover, showers, and heavy rainfall across many areas. Recent rainfall data indicates significant amounts, with recorded precipitation levels such as 66mm in Tokotoko (Navua), 33mm in Dobuilevu, and 25.5mm in Korovou over the past 24 hours.

Authorities have cautioned that this wet weather could lead to flash flooding in low-lying or vulnerable regions, surface flooding on roadways, and diminished visibility during heavy rain—conditions that are hazardous for motorists.
