The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a warning regarding impending heavy rain and strong winds as Tropical Disturbance TD03F continues to affect weather patterns throughout the nation. In an update released at 1 PM today, the Met Service noted that TD03F is slowly moving over waters located east of the Solomon Islands and north of Vanuatu, but has a low probability of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next five days.
The disturbance is predicted to track southeastward, entering Fiji’s waters between Tuesday and Wednesday. This movement is expected to bring with it periods of intense rainfall and fresh to strong winds.
As a precaution, the Met Service cautioned about the likelihood of flash flooding and potential river flooding, particularly during the timeframe from Tuesday to Wednesday. Rainfall is anticipated to increase in frequency starting Monday night as the system approaches, with heavy rain and thunderstorms already impacting various regions of the country.
Fiji residents are advised to remain vigilant and prepared for possible severe weather conditions in the coming days, emphasizing the importance of safety measures during this time.
