Fiji is bracing for heavy rainfall, flooding, and strong winds as Tropical Disturbance TD03F is anticipated to enter the country early next week. The Fiji Meteorological Service has communicated that this weather system is expected to reach Fiji waters between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Although the likelihood of it developing into a tropical cyclone is considered low, the associated trough is already impacting weather conditions across the nation. A heavy rain alert is currently in effect for the entirety of the Fiji Group, and a flash flood alert has been issued for all low-lying and flood-prone regions, including smaller streams.

Forecasters predict that rainfall will intensify starting Monday night. Given that the soils are already saturated, the risk for flash flooding and river flooding is elevated, particularly between Tuesday and Wednesday. In addition, strong north to northwesterly winds are forecast for parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, as well as the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, along with northern Lau and Lomaiviti. Wind gusts may reach damaging levels in exposed areas.

Mariners should prepare for rough seas and poor visibility across all Fiji waters from Tuesday through Wednesday. Thankfully, improvements in weather conditions are expected beginning Thursday.

The public is advised to remain vigilant, stay updated with official weather information, and take necessary precautions during this unsettled period. The timely warnings and preparations can help mitigate potential impacts as the country navigates through these adverse weather conditions.
