A heavy rain warning is currently in effect for the Fiji Group as an active trough of low pressure lays over the region. The Fiji Meteorological Service has announced that periods of intense rainfall and thunderstorms are likely to persist until tomorrow.

A flash flood warning is issued for the entire Viti Levu, while a flash flood alert remains active for Vanua Levu. The Nadi Weather Office has cautioned that heavy downpours may cause sudden flooding in low-lying areas, necessitating vigilance among residents.

Flood warnings are in place for regions near the Nakauvadra River in Rakiraki, as well as the Naseyani and Yaqara Rivers, the Tavua River, and the floodplains of the Ba River. Furthermore, alerts are extended to low-lying areas adjacent to the Nadi, Nawaka, and Tuva rivers in Nadroga.

Forecasters predict that most regions will experience occasional heavy rain in addition to a few thunderstorms. The weather is expected to improve later tomorrow, though moderate to fresh northwest winds, potentially gusty at times, will prevail. Sea conditions are expected to remain rough throughout.

For tomorrow, occasional showers are anticipated across Fiji, with isolated thunderstorms expected in the afternoons or evenings on both Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. As the day progresses, winds are expected to shift to a northeasterly direction, and sea conditions should be moderate.

Lastly, Rotuma continues to face a heavy rain alert, with forecasts indicating intermittent heavy rainfall and isolated thunderstorms, accompanied by moderate to fresh winds and moderate to rough seas.

This weather phenomenon serves as a reminder of nature’s power and the importance of preparedness during such environmental challenges. The community is encouraged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure safety amid the inclement weather.
