The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported substantial rainfall throughout various regions of the country over the past 24 hours, heightening the risk of flooding, particularly in vulnerable and downstream areas. Rainfall data collected from 3 AM yesterday to 3 AM today indicates that the most significant totals occurred in the interior and western parts of Viti Levu.

The rainfall measurements recorded include Nadarivatu with 248.5 mm, Navala at 223.5 mm, Nanoko at 179.5 mm, Waikubukubu measuring 163.0 mm, Monasavu at 134.0 mm, and Lautoka with 101.0 mm. Weather authorities have attributed this heavy rainfall to persistent rainbands resulting from unsettled weather conditions affecting the Fiji Group.

The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued warnings that continued rain could result in flash flooding and riverine flooding, especially in low-lying areas prone to flooding and along river catchments downstream from the affected interior regions.

Authorities are advising the public to remain vigilant, steer clear of flooded roads and river crossings, and adhere to all official weather warnings and advisories as the situation progresses. This alert serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness during adverse weather conditions, aiming to safeguard communities from potential hazards linked to flooding.
