Fiji’s amateur boxing team has been actively preparing for an Invitational Tournament set to take place in New Zealand on the 1st and 2nd of next month. Coach Cam Todd and his team traveled to New Zealand earlier this week to acclimate to the local conditions and have been honing their skills by training with some of the country’s top boxers.
Todd expressed confidence in his team’s preparation, noting their excitement to compete. “We’ve just been training with some of the boxers here, and that’s been great because we were able to get a feel of what the competition will be like. Everyone is excited and pumped and they just can’t wait to jump in the ring,” he remarked.
The focus on training with New Zealand’s athletes not only offers practical experience before the tournament but also highlights the ongoing collaboration between the two nations in the realm of amateur boxing. This engagement is essential for developing the skills of the Fiji team, especially as many young boxers look to make their mark at the international level.
This experience in New Zealand follows a series of successful local events, particularly the Fiji-New Zealand Invitational that was hosted recently in Suva, where young boxers showcased their skills, indicating a promising future for the sport in Fiji. Coach Todd has consistently underscored the importance of nurturing talent within the community, aiming for future international competitions to build upon the framework already established.
The enthusiasm surrounding the upcoming tournament reflects not just a commitment to competition but also a dedication to fostering the next generation of boxing champions in Fiji. With continued support and training, the hopes for Fiji’s boxing prospects are vibrant, encouraging young athletes to pursue their passion and aim for success on the global stage.
