The Fiji Amateur Boxing Association is sending a strong contingent to the New Zealand Invitational on November 1, comprising three local coaches and two officials who are committed to fostering the development of boxing in Fiji. This team will support head coach Cam Todd, ensuring young boxers are well-prepared for international competition.
Anil Chand, Fiji’s most experienced judge and referee, will officiate at the event, while Prakash Chand will gain invaluable international exposure in his role as an official. Their participation aligns with Todd’s vision of holistic growth within the sport, emphasizing the importance of nurturing not just athletes, but also coaches and officials.
Todd stated, “For me, it’s important to grow the whole sport—the boxers, coaches, and the officials. I want to make this a regular effort to help our country progress in boxing.” This initiative embodies a commitment to building a supportive environment for the burgeoning boxing community in Fiji.
The coaches—Rusi Qarasaumaki and Tui Lomaloma, representing the larger boxing clubs, and Ana Ledua, Fiji’s first female certified coach—are all set to gain first-hand experience at an international level. Their involvement is particularly significant, as Ledua’s presence brings representation in women’s boxing, especially with six female boxers on the team.
