In a remarkable initiative to enhance environmental sustainability, the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s is set to commemorate its 50th anniversary by planting 170 indigenous trees. This event will take place from March 26 to 28 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, highlighting the tournament’s commitment to ecological initiatives.

Lawrence Tikaram, the president of the Marist Rugby Club, announced that the tree-planting campaign is part of a larger dedication to environmental action. This effort builds on previous successes, which included the planting of 1,000 fruit trees in Naivucini, Naitasiri, and organizing clean-up campaigns along the Suva foreshore, showcasing a proactive approach to environmental conservation.

During the ceremony, captains from each participating team will plant one tree each, while sponsors and event directors will contribute by planting an additional 50 trees, symbolizing the tournament’s 50-year milestone. This collective effort serves as a powerful reminder of the positive influence sports can have in fostering community spirit and promoting environmental stewardship, making a significant impact on both the local ecosystem and public awareness.
