The Fiji Bitter 7s has established itself as a vital platform for emerging rugby talent for nearly half a century, and the newly launched 2025–2026 series continues this proud legacy. This year, the series is set to feature six major tournaments across Fiji, reflecting the unwavering commitment to cultivate the next generation of rugby players.
Lawrence Tikaram, Chairman of the Fiji Bitter 7s Series Organizing Committee, highlighted that this event transcends mere sport; it represents the pride and cultural heritage of Fijian rugby. He underscored the significance of the series in fostering community unity, asserting, “We’ve taken it from grassroots to the Olympics, which signifies our dedication to developing the finest rugby talent in Fiji.”
The series kicks off with the Yalivata 7s tournament on November 28–29. This will be followed by the Wairiki 7s from December 11–13, and the Service Rugby 7s in Labasa from January 8–10. Additional events include the Savusavu 7s taking place from February 5–7, the Nawaka 7s on March 13–14, and concluding with the grand finale, the Marist 7s, scheduled for March 26–28.
Building on the success of previous series, the Fiji Bitter 7s is expected to remain a prominent highlight in Fiji’s sports calendar. It not only brings together local teams but also celebrates the rich rugby culture ingrained in Fijian society. By focusing on grassroots rugby, this series emphasizes the value of sportsmanship and competition while nurturing community spirit and pride. This initiative lays a strong foundation for a promising future for Fijian rugby, ensuring that young players have the opportunity to shine on both local and international stages.
