Fiji Bati Sharpen Ruck Defense Ahead of Pacific Bowl Clash with Cook Islands

The Vodafone Fiji Bati is channeling its focus on enhancing its defensive strategies in preparation for the upcoming Pacific Bowl Championship. Head coach Wise Kativerata underscored the importance of improving their performance around the ruck, a crucial area for the team’s success. He believes that while the Bati’s attacking talent is formidable, the key to unleashing that potential lies in solidifying their defensive structure.

Kativerata stated, “We need to control the ruck, we need our forwards to set the platform for our outside backs so they can do their work regarding where we want to get into the field and where we want to finish after the tournament.” This focus on the ruck area is intended to help the players create a balance between offense and defense, ensuring they are not constantly defending and can instead transition to scoring opportunities.

As the team gears up to face the Cook Islands this Saturday in Papua New Guinea, Kativerata also expressed optimism about the support they have received, which he believes will be crucial as the team works towards the Rugby League World Cup. “I’m thrilled that international rugby league is taking place in Fiji, and we have promising future Fiji Bati players emerging,” he remarked.

The match against the Cook Islands is set to start at 5 PM, and it will be broadcast live on FBC Sports, offering fans an exciting opportunity to witness the Bati in action as they strive for a strong finish in the championship.
