The Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) board is currently assessing the future of Fiji Bati coach Wise Kativerata as the Rugby League World Cup in 2026 approaches. FNRL chairman Akuila Masi revealed that the board is taking a comprehensive look at the coaching situation, particularly in light of recent performances.
“This week, we discussed the matter in detail, considering all perspectives; the World Cup is just around the corner,” Masi stated, acknowledging the growing pressure from clubs and fans. He noted that there has been significant feedback on social media, especially after the Fiji Bati faced yet another defeat against Papua New Guinea during the Pacific Bowl.
Masi emphasized the need for results and the overall growth of the game as clubs voice their concerns. “We have mixed comments from everywhere, and the board is aware of that,” he said. The board aims to finalize their decision on Kativerata’s position within the week.
This situation arises as the Fiji Bati has struggled against Papua New Guinea, failing to secure a victory against them for the past two years in the Pacific Bowl. With the World Cup on the horizon, the FNRL’s evaluation could lead to significant changes that may positively impact the team’s future performance.
