The Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee is expressing optimism about the nation’s representation at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Chief Executive Officer Vanessa Kilner emphasized the strength and depth of Fiji’s athletic contingent, underscoring their potential to excel across various sports.

Kilner highlighted that Fiji will enter the competition with a highly competitive team, specifically noting a strong group of weightlifters who are among the key athletes targeted for success at the Games. She also celebrated the achievements of Fiji’s national 3×3 basketball program, with both the men’s and women’s teams having secured their spots thanks to impressive performances in Palau.

“We’ve got a really, really good team going into Glasgow. Our weightlifters and the great 3×3 basketball teams are among our strong points. Boxing is another source of optimism, as several local boxers have demonstrated significant potential, gaining valuable experience from various international competitions. Judo also looks promising as our representatives continue to perform well in their preparations for the event,” Kilner stated.

Additionally, Fiji will be competing in bowls, a sport in which the nation has recently achieved international accolades, including a runner-up finish at a world championship. Swimming is shaping up as another strong area for Fiji, with positive developments within the current squad.
