The Fijian Government has reiterated its commitment to the One China Policy amid recent tensions over the diplomatic visit of senior diplomat Filipo Tarakinikini to Taiwan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MOFA) emphasized the importance of adhering to this policy in a statement acknowledging the diplomatic incident.
The statement from MOFA mentioned, “The Government of Fiji through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade reaffirms its commitment to the One China Policy,” and indicated that appropriate measures would be taken to address the matter appropriately. Fiji emphasized its relationship with the People’s Republic of China, stating it is built on mutual respect, cooperation, and non-interference principles.
