Badminton Fiji is poised for an exhilarating start to the 2026 season with the highly anticipated Oceania Championships, which will be hosted in New Zealand next month. National coach Steven Low has underscored the significance of extensive preparation, revealing that athlete training for this event kicked off as early as last year. In December, the team took part in a specialized training camp designed to sharpen their skills and strategies.

Coach Low expressed his contentment with the advances made by the players recently, highlighting the training camp’s pivotal role in pinpointing and tackling their weaknesses. “During our December training camp, we concentrated on the areas where our athletes need improvement ahead of the tournament, ensuring they can compete effectively against international challengers. Mastering these skills will facilitate their growth and learning from the competitive experience,” he said.

To represent Fiji at the championships, a 10-member team comprising six men and four women will be selected. The competitions are set to unfold at the Badminton North Harbor Centre in Auckland from February 8 to 12, offering an exciting opportunity for the participating athletes to showcase their talent and compete at a high level. Badminton Fiji is optimistic about the forthcoming event, anticipating strong performances and invaluable experiences for the team members.
