The President of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, held a significant Civil Service Medal Investiture Ceremony in Abu Dhabi on November 3, 2025, to honor two exemplary Fijian diplomats for their outstanding contributions to the nation. Attending the ceremony were the First Lady, Mrs. Emily Lalabalavu, along with family and staff members from the Fiji Embassy.
The Civil Service Medal is awarded to recognize excellence, integrity, and commitment among public servants in Fiji, celebrating those who exhibit remarkable performance and leadership. President Lalabalavu praised the awardees for their unwavering professionalism and dedication, stressing that their efforts have instilled a sense of pride within the Fijian Civil Service and inspired others in similar roles to uphold high standards of service.
The first medalist, Mr. Sanaila Laqai, serves as the First Secretary at the Fiji Embassy in Abu Dhabi. With over 15 years in the civil service, Laqai has enhanced Fiji’s diplomatic relations with countries like China, the UAE, and the broader Gulf, Middle East, and North Africa regions. He has also provided exceptional support to the Fijian diaspora, particularly through consular services.
The second recipient, Mr. Jaljeet Kumar, is the Second Secretary at the same embassy, reflecting 19 years of civil service. His past roles in Seoul and Washington D.C. have been marked by significant contributions to Fiji’s international relations, particularly with Korea, the United States, Canada, and the UAE, reinforcing Fiji’s diplomatic stature globally.
President Lalabalavu concluded the ceremony by extending his congratulations to both men for their exemplary service and commitment to national interests. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to acknowledging the invaluable contributions made by Fijians serving overseas, fostering a culture of appreciation and motivation for all civil servants.
