The anticipated release of a report from the tribunal probing serious allegations against suspended Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa is nearing, with President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu set to present the findings. The investigation encompasses three major allegations against Nakarawa, which include misconduct related to personal interests, financial mismanagement, and abuse of authority.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who oversees the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC), referred inquiries regarding the report to Ropate Green, the Solicitor-General at the COC Secretariat. However, questions about whether the COC has received the report have gone unanswered thus far. Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga affirmed that the report’s release will be managed by the President, who has authority over the tribunal’s commission.

Formed in July 2022 after a recommendation from the COC to the President, the tribunal led by Justice Daniel Goundar, along with Justices Dane Tuiqereqere and Savenaca Banuve, concluded its proceedings in November 2025. As Fiji awaits the outcome of these serious allegations, the nation is looking for accountability and transparency within its leadership.

The impending report release could mark a crucial turning point in governance and ethics in Fiji’s public service sector, serving as a reminder for all officials about the importance of integrity in their positions. The focus on accountability holds promise for fostering a culture of ethical conduct in governmental roles moving forward.
