Fiji has taken a significant step in international diplomacy by appointing Mr. Jesoni Vitusagavulu as its inaugural Ambassador to the State of Israel. On February 3, 2026, during a ceremony at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem, Ambassador Vitusagavulu presented his credentials to Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

In his remarks, the ambassador conveyed warm salutations from Fiji’s President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, and the people of Fiji. He expressed his pride in representing Fiji at its first Embassy in Jerusalem, which officially opened in September 2025. This milestone marks a vital turning point in the diplomatic relations between the two nations.

President Herzog warmly welcomed Ambassador Vitusagavulu, commending Fiji for establishing a regular diplomatic mission in Jerusalem. He highlighted the growing socio-economic, cultural, and historic ties that bind the two countries. In a noteworthy reciprocal move, Israel plans to open its own resident diplomatic mission in Fiji later this year.

The establishment of resident missions by both nations emphasizes their dedication to bolstering bilateral, regional, and multilateral cooperation, especially within the broader Indo-Pacific arena. The strengthening of ties between Fiji and Israel signifies not only diplomatic advancement but also a shared commitment to collaboration in various sectors as they look to the future.
