Apolosi Lewaqai has been appointed to supervise both the Western and Northern Divisions, expanding his leadership role amid a significant transitional phase for the government. This decision comes from the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development to guarantee seamless government operations and the uninterrupted progress of ongoing development projects in the Northern region.

Lewaqai’s interim appointment follows the medical leave of Northern Commissioner Uraia Rainima, as well as the recent departure of Setareki Dakuiboca, the Divisional Planning Officer for the Northern Division. Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, Mosese Bulitavu, along with Acting Northern Commissioner Lewaqai, met with heads of government departments at Macuata House to reaffirm the government’s commitment to enhancing development in Vanua Levu and its surrounding maritime communities.

In addition to Lewaqai’s appointment, the Ministry has also made further temporary leadership adjustments. Mitieli Cama is currently stepping in as Acting Permanent Secretary, while Josefa Navuku, the Commissioner for the Central Division, is acting as Deputy Secretary. At the divisional level, Mateo Naiveli, the Divisional Planning Officer for Central, is serving as the Acting Divisional Commissioner for Central.

These interim measures are designed to ensure that all operations, development initiatives, and disaster risk management duties proceed without interruption across the various divisions. The Ministry has assured the public and stakeholders that services will remain consistent and effective during this transitional period. This proactive approach aims to maintain stability and progress while addressing the leadership changes within the Ministry.
