Sitiveni Rokoro has been appointed as the inaugural chief executive officer of Drug-Free Sports Fiji, marking a groundbreaking moment for the country’s newly established independent National Anti-Doping Organisation (NADO). This initiative represents Fiji’s significant commitment to promoting integrity and fairness in sports across all levels of competition.
Drug-Free Sports Fiji was created under the purview of the Ministry of Youth and Sports as a statutory body responsible for enforcing the Anti-Doping Act 2024. The organization plans to collaborate with international partners, including the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and UNESCO, to ensure that Fijian athletes compete with transparency and accountability on the global stage.
Under Rokoro’s leadership, the organization aims to implement extensive anti-doping testing and education programs, targeting not only elite athletes but also local schools. As the first CEO, Rokoro will guide the strategic plan for 2027-2030, which prioritizes education, transparency, and strict enforcement of anti-doping regulations.
Jone Koroitamana, the Manager of Sports, emphasized the importance of this advancement, highlighting the robust government support for the initiative. “We are taking a major leap towards safeguarding the integrity of sports in Fiji. This will benefit athletes, sports organizations, and the community as a whole,” he stated.
Kamlesh Krishna, president of Drug-Free Sports Fiji, applauded Rokoro’s appointment and the organization’s vision. “This is a proud moment for Fiji. The trust placed in Drug-Free Sports Fiji and Mr. Rokoro’s leadership will ensure that our sporting future is built on fairness, transparency, and respect for the rules,” Krishna noted.
Rokoro, who recently resigned as CEO of Cricket Fiji, is set to formally begin his new role on March 16, taking this significant step forward for Fiji’s sports integrity framework and establishing a culture of clean competition throughout the nation. This initiative signifies a hopeful outlook for the future of sports in Fiji.
