Fiji and the Solomon Islands are advancing their collaboration in the justice sector through the newly established Twinning Program, which aims to enhance regional cooperation and capacity-building. This significant step was marked by a traditional Chuppu ceremony held on November 12, 2025, welcoming Fiji’s Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General, Siromi Turaga, by the Solomon Islands’ Minister for Justice and Legal Affairs, Clezy Rore.
The visit is part of the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed earlier this year, which initiates a framework for mutual learning, professional development, and institutional strengthening between the Ministries of Justice of the two nations. Minister Turaga emphasized the program’s importance in fostering knowledge exchange, stating, “Alone we go faster, but together we go further.”
During the week-long engagement, the Fijian delegation plans to meet with senior officials from various legal sectors, including the Judiciary, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and Law Reform Commission. A highlight of this collaboration will be the Justice Information Management System (JIMS), a digital initiative that aims to improve transparency and efficiency in justice delivery.
Minister Turaga expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality received from the Solomon Islands, reinforcing the shared Pacific values of unity, respect, and collaborative service that underpin this partnership. He articulated a hopeful vision for the future, suggesting that this visit could open new doors for cooperation and mutual respect across both nations.
This initiative is supported by the Australia–Solomon Islands Partnership for Justice (ASIPJ) Program, showcasing a regional commitment to enhancing legal frameworks and promoting good governance. There is a collective aspiration that through partnerships such as this, both Fiji and the Solomon Islands will bolster their justice systems, ultimately contributing to regional stability and security.
The ongoing collaboration reflects broader trends in the Pacific region, where countries are prioritizing legal reforms to strengthen governance structures. These cooperative efforts indicate an optimistic outlook for future developments in the justice sector, emphasizing the potential for continuous improvement and shared success in ensuring justice for all citizens.
