Fiji is making notable strides in enhancing its cybersecurity capabilities through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Israel, a leader in cyber technology. This agreement, formalized during the visit of Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Sharren Haskel, was witnessed by Fiji’s Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, who called it a crucial development in reinforcing the nation’s digital infrastructure.
The partnership emerges amidst rising concerns regarding cybersecurity vulnerabilities in Fiji, prompting collaboration across multiple government ministries, including Communications, Home Affairs, and Defence. Deputy Foreign Minister Haskel praised Fiji for its unwavering support of Israel during difficult periods, highlighting the significant move to establish an embassy in Jerusalem, reinforcing the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. “You have stood beside us with clarity and courage,” she remarked, expressing gratitude for Fiji’s steadfast solidarity.
Haskel also led a delegation of Israeli business leaders to explore potential cooperative ventures in sectors such as agriculture, water, healthcare, education, and women’s empowerment, areas where Fiji could derive substantial benefits.
