Fiji Airways has officially announced the appointment of Paul Scurrah as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective November 1, 2025. This significant leadership change comes after a comprehensive global search and follows a decade-long tenure by the outgoing CEO, Andre Viljoen, who is transitioning to a similar role at Air Mauritius.
Nalin Patel, Chairman of the Fiji Airways Group, expressed confidence in Scurrah’s capabilities, citing his extensive executive experience spanning more than 20 years across various sectors, including aviation, transport, logistics, and tourism. Patel highlighted Scurrah’s results-driven approach, which is expected to lead Fiji Airways confidently into its next phase. Scurrah is best known for his previous role as CEO of Pacific National, Australia’s largest private rail freight company, and his time as CEO of Virgin Australia, particularly during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under Viljoen’s leadership, Fiji Airways enjoyed remarkable growth, expanding its fleet from 12 to 24 aircraft and significantly increasing its revenue from $815.3 million in 2015 to a projected $1.9 billion this year. Contributions during his decade in charge included obtaining a prestigious 4-star rating from SKYTRAX and the recognition of ‘Best Airline in Australia/Pacific’ for two consecutive years. His strategic direction, especially during the pandemic, allowed the airline to operate essential repatriation flights and maintain a foothold while many competitors struggled.
Patel further assured that Scurrah’s leadership would enhance Fiji Airways’ regional and international presence while also reinforcing commitment to customer service and national pride. Following his transition, Viljoen will remain on the Board of Directors, providing support and ensuring continuity in leadership.
This new chapter is viewed positively, as it symbolizes an exciting opportunity for Fiji Airways to continue to innovate and nurture local talent, while sustaining its standing as a major player in the global aviation industry. With Scurrah at the helm, there is optimism surrounding the airline’s future growth and resilience in the face of ongoing industry challenges.
