Fiji Airways is making strides to expand its presence in the U.S. by increasing its flights from Dallas-Fort Worth to Fiji to four times a week, beginning early next year. This development comes as the airline celebrates a significant achievement, being recognized among the global top 10 at the 2025 APEX Passenger Choice Awards. Despite operating with a relatively small fleet of 14 aircraft, Fiji Airways continues to mark its presence on the global stage.
Andre Viljoen, the outgoing CEO, emphasized that the U.S. represents the airline’s most promising growth market. Currently, U.S.-based travelers account for 20% of Fiji Airways’ passenger traffic. Distinctively, Fiji Airways remains the sole airline offering nonstop flights from the U.S. to Fiji, serving four American cities: Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Dallas-Fort Worth.
Los Angeles is a primary focus with daily services, but Dallas-Fort Worth has been identified as a significant growth opportunity. The route initially launched in December of the previous year with three weekly flights, soon increasing to four. This expansion aligns with strategic partnerships, notably with American Airlines through the Oneworld Alliance, which Fiji Airways joined in April. These partnerships enhance connectivity through the Dallas hub, a key operational point for American Airlines.
Looking ahead, Fiji Airways plans to introduce new U.S. routes, with Seattle as a possible destination, leveraging its collaboration with Oneworld partner Alaska Airlines. This strategic move aligns with the airline’s efforts to tap into inbound leisure travel, catering mainly to U.S. tourists drawn to Fiji’s picturesque landscapes and tropical climate.
The collaboration with American Airlines extends beyond route offerings; it enhances customer experiences through a shared loyalty program, promoting Fiji as an exotic and readily accessible destination. Strengthening its position in the U.S. market, Fiji Airways remains committed to being a critical player in North American aviation while elevating tourism prospects in Fiji.
Fiji Airways’ strategic developments indicate a promising future in global connectivity, poised to capitalize on expanding tourism and business exchanges between the United States and the South Pacific. The airline’s focus on U.S. expansion underscores its concerted approach to growth by entering lucrative markets and offering attractive travel opportunities.
