Fiji Airways Crowned Happiest Airline Under New CEO Paul Scurrah

National carrier Fiji Airways has been officially designated the “Happiest Airline in the World” by its new managing director and CEO, Paul Scurrah. During his welcoming address at the airline’s head office in Nadi, Scurrah expressed his ambitious vision for the airline, promising that it will embody the warmth and hospitality that Fiji is famously known for.

Scurrah, who assumed his role on November 1, previously led Virgin Australia and praised his new team for their outstanding accomplishments, which have garnered notable international recognition for the airline. Recently, Fiji Airways achieved remarkable accolades at the prestigious APEX Awards in Singapore, winning awards for Best Cabin Service and Best Food & Beverage in the South Pacific for 2026. These awards are based on over a million verified passenger votes, showcasing the airline’s commitment to quality service and customer satisfaction.

In his address, Scurrah emphasized that safety would remain a top priority while he aims to foster a culture of listening and learning within the airline. He underscored the importance of continuous improvement in the industry, especially in the wake of lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic, stating, “Nothing in the airline industry can or should ever be taken for granted.”

Recognizing the contributions of his staff to the airline’s success, Scurrah acknowledged their professionalism, pride, and passion as key factors in maintaining high operational standards. He encouraged teamwork to enhance the airline’s growth, culture, and visibility as a leading global carrier reflecting the Spirit of Fiji.

Since its founding in 1951, Fiji Airways, along with its subsidiary Fiji Link, has expanded significantly and now operates 36 destinations across 14 countries, connecting to over 900 destinations worldwide through its membership in the oneworld alliance. The airline plays a crucial role in Fijian tourism, bringing in 70% of all visitors flying to the nation and generating over $1.7 billion in revenue in 2023.

Furthermore, Fiji Airways was recently recognized as a World Class Airline for 2026, landing in the top 10 globally according to APEX—an accolade that speaks to the effectiveness of its strategies and the dedication of its team. The airline’s trajectory reflects not only its capability to deliver superior service but also inspires hope within the aviation industry amid a competitive market.

With a firm commitment to excellence and a focus on enriching passenger experiences, Fiji Airways is carving out an encouraging path into the future, showcasing the vibrant culture and hospitality of Fiji to the global travel community. As such, the airline continues to serve as a vital pillar for Fiji’s economy and a beacon of optimism within the global airline industry.
