Turning awareness into action: Fiji Airways backs Pinktober cancer drive

Fiji Airways backs Pinktober with $10k for cancer awareness

Fiji Airways has made a noteworthy contribution of $10,000 to the Fiji Cancer Society in support of Pinktober, an initiative focused on raising cancer awareness. With the theme “Turning awareness into action,” the airline has implemented various programs to empower its employees and promote health checks and community outreach related to cancer prevention.

Paul Scurrah, the managing director and CEO of Fiji Airways, expressed pride in the unity and compassion exhibited by the airline’s staff throughout this campaign. “Pinktober is a reminder that our strength as an organization lies in how we support one another,” he stated. This sentiment was echoed by Chief People Officer Anna Morris, who highlighted the growing impact of their initiatives each year.

Morris emphasized the significance of providing staff with crucial knowledge and resources to make informed health decisions, which can, in turn, positively affect their families and communities. “Every year, our efforts grow stronger, reaching more of our people and the wider community,” she noted.

The Fiji Cancer Society expressed appreciation for the ongoing partnership with Fiji Airways. CEO Belinda Chan acknowledged the airline’s commitment to community wellness, stating that the donation serves as more than just financial assistance. “Your generous support is a lifeline that brings hope, care, and dignity to Fijians affected by cancer,” Chan remarked.

Employees of Fiji Airways engaged in various fundraising activities, including bake sales and team challenges, all themed around pink to symbolize the campaign’s mission. This cooperative spirit not only aids in raising essential funds but also cultivates a deeper sense of connection and collective strength in the battle against cancer.

Fiji Airways is part of a growing movement among companies, including Telecom Fiji and Vodafone Fiji, that are committed to enhancing community health through significant contributions to the Fiji Cancer Society. This trend highlights the important role that corporations can play in fostering health initiatives and reinforcing community solidarity.

Through these combined efforts, there is a hopeful outlook for greater awareness and support for those impacted by cancer, emphasizing that communities can make a substantial difference in the lives of individuals facing such challenges.
