Fiji Airports is embarking on a transformative $2 billion infrastructure investment plan aimed at modernizing its facilities and expanding capacity through 2033. This significant initiative encompasses a range of assets, including pavements, buildings, IT systems, and equipment, addressing the complex needs of airport infrastructure.
Niranjwan Chettiar, a director at Airports Fiji Limited, highlighted the importance of balancing upgrades to physical structures with advancements in digital technology, particularly their own HP network, to enhance the passenger experience. With current airport operations functioning at full capacity, these upgrades are crucial to accommodate expected demand through 2040 and beyond.
The investment aligns with Fiji Airports’ vision to establish itself as a world-class aviation hub, enhancing connectivity across the Pacific, Australia, and the Americas. Plans are already underway for digital initiatives aimed at improving operational efficiency and customer experiences, such as automated bag drops and check-in kiosks that will help reduce wait times.
Chettiar also discussed the development of an operational dashboard to monitor performance data in real-time, enhancing management decision-making and responsiveness. Additionally, consultations with the Ministry of Immigration and other stakeholders are underway to introduce biometric processing and smart gates, further enhancing security and efficiency during passenger departures and arrivals.

Chettiar emphasized that ensuring safety and security meets rigorous aviation standards is paramount, instilling confidence in both airlines and passengers. With a workforce of 577 across 15 airports managing an extensive airspace of 6 million square kilometers, the focus on skill development is essential for maintaining high service standards as operations evolve.
The strategic emphasis on both internal and external partnerships is meant to foster innovation and continuous improvement. Nadi International Airport, with over 99,239 aircraft movements annually, is reinforcing its role as a vital regional transportation and commerce hub.
