Fiji Airports has partnered with Alstef Group in a significant move to enhance the Baggage Handling System (BHS) at Nadi International Airport, with a contract valued at $8.1 million. This considerable investment stands as one of the most crucial upgrades the airport has seen in years.
Alstef Group, a recognized leader in the field of baggage handling solutions, will play a vital role in modernizing the airport’s system to bolster efficiency and resilience. According to Fiji Airports’ CEO, Mesake Nawari, the enhancements will introduce dual conveyor belts at check-in counters, aimed at improving passenger throughput during peak travel periods. The project will also include a new outbound screening line featuring Standard 3 Hold Baggage Screening machines that meet both European and US aviation security standards.
Nawari emphasized the initiative’s commitment to providing a seamless travel experience, which is integral to supporting Fiji’s vital tourism sector. He reiterated that Nadi International Airport will continue to serve as the gateway to Fiji for international travelers. In addition to the new screening machines, the upgrade involves a phased replacement of existing equipment, with the first unit expected to arrive by the end of the year after its installation in England.
This endeavor aligns with ongoing modernization efforts at the airport, which have included previous contracts for new hold baggage screening machines and upgraded passenger boarding aerobridges. These projects underscore Fiji Airports’ dedication to enhancing operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction, further establishing Nadi International Airport as a key aviation hub in the region and contributing to the economic growth of Fiji.
As these improvements are set to unfold, they provide an optimistic outlook for the future of travel in Fiji. With enhanced facilities, the nation is poised to remain an attractive destination for international visitors while improving the travel experience for both local and global passengers.
