Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka reaffirmed Fiji’s dedication to boosting its aviation sector, recognizing it as a pivotal element for economic development at the recent Changi Aviation Summit held in Singapore. His statement underscored the importance of regional connections, operational resilience, and environmental sustainability in shaping Fiji’s strategic vision for aviation as a crucial economic facilitator.
The Changi Aviation Summit drew over 400 participants, including aviation ministers, directors-general, CEOs, and senior figures from the global aviation sector, with a notable presence from Pacific Island nations. During the summit, Gavoka engaged in significant discussions with ministers from Pacific Small Island States and met with Toshiyuki Onuma, the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), to address challenges surrounding regional air connectivity.
Additionally, Gavoka contributed to a ministerial panel discussion, “Creating Growth in a Disruptive World: Opportunities, Challenges, and Collaboration,” sharing his vision alongside other prominent aviation leaders. A key theme of his address was the critical need for ongoing technical support to facilitate the development and adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), a move intended to benefit not only Fiji but also the larger community of Pacific Small Island Developing States.
Gavoka’s engagement at the summit illustrates a forward-thinking approach to confronting the pressing challenges within the aviation sector while taking full advantage of opportunities for growth. Through these initiatives, Fiji is committed to nurturing a robust and sustainable aviation industry that promises to foster economic growth across the Pacific region. This dedication to enhancing aviation aligns with global efforts towards sustainable development, inspiring hope for a resilient future in air travel and regional connectivity.
