Fiji 7s Unveils Dubai 7s Squad: Fresh Talent Meets Veteran Experience

Osea Kolinisau, the head coach of the Fiji Airways men’s sevens team, has unveiled his squad for the HSBC Dubai 7s, kicking off the 2024/2025 series. This announcement follows the impressive performance at the Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s tournament in Lautoka, where Fiji 7s Blue triumphed with a strong 29-5 win over the Taikita Brothers.

The national squad features two teams: Fiji 7s Blue, which claimed victory, and Fiji 7s White, which faced defeat in the semi-finals against the Taiki Ta Brothers, finishing with a score of 10-15. Kolinisau’s selection process reflects the dedication and hard work demonstrated by the athletes during diligent training sessions. Each player displayed a commitment to secure their place on the roster for Dubai.

In recent training sessions held at the FRU High Performance Gym in Laucala Bay, Suva, Kolinisau acknowledged the difficulty of forming a balanced team that includes seasoned players and newcomers. He noted the pressures tied to his role but emphasized the necessity of maintaining high standards as they prepare for the challenges awaiting them in Dubai.

The squad has now departed for Dubai, eager to showcase their abilities on the international stage. The 12-member team heading to the tournament includes Jerry Matana, Joji Nasova, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Ilikimi Torosi, Suliano Volivolituevei, Terio Tamani, Pilipo Bukayaro, Ratu Filipe Sauturaga, Kavekini Tanivanuakula (making his debut), George Bose (also a debutant), Vuiviwa Naduvalo, and Iowane Teba.

Fijian rugby enthusiasts are filled with anticipation as they await the team’s performances in Dubai. The blend of experience and fresh talent within this squad fuels a hopeful outlook, with supporters eager to see if their dedication will yield a successful campaign, further enriching Fiji’s storied rugby legacy on the global stage.
