A woman is facing serious charges after allegedly setting her boyfriend and his car on fire during a heated argument in Midvale, Utah. The incident occurred late Friday night at a 7-Eleven gas station when witnesses reported seeing flames and a man on fire.
According to Unified Police, witnesses observed the couple in a dispute before the woman poured a flammable liquid on her boyfriend and ignited him with a lighter, which also ignited the vehicle. Quick-thinking bystanders used a fire extinguisher to help contain the flames.
The victim suffered significant burns on his back, head, and other extremities, resulting in his hospitalization. As of Saturday morning, his injuries were too severe for him to provide a statement to authorities.
The suspect, a 23-year-old woman, has been arrested and is facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated arson, both classified as first-degree felonies. She reportedly fled the scene but was apprehended at a nearby hotel, where police found evidence linking her to the crime, including the smell of accelerants. Witnesses noted that she did not attempt to assist her boyfriend after he caught fire.
She is currently being held without bail, pending further legal proceedings.
