Caitlin Clark scored 28 points and provided 12 assists as the Indiana Fever defeated the Dallas Wings 100-93 on Sunday, despite Arike Ogunbowale tying a record with nine three-pointers.
Kelsey Mitchell was the standout performer for the Fever, contributing 36 points, including a pivotal three-pointer that extended Indiana’s lead to four points with 1:58 left in the game.
Ogunbowale shot 9 of 16 from beyond the arc, surpassing her previous high of seven three-pointers, and finished the game with 34 points. The All-Star Game MVP attempted two shots to claim a record 10th three-pointer but missed both in the closing minute while the Wings were down by six points.
Ogunbowale also equaled her career high with eight rebounds, tying the league’s record for three-pointers in a game, previously held by Mitchell and Seattle’s Jewell Loyd.
“I salute people like Arike because off the court, we’re really great friends,” Mitchell stated. “We tend to work out and train together in the offseason. I wasn’t expecting anything different from her.”
Clark and Mitchell each connected on five three-pointers, leading the Fever to a 50% shooting rate from deep and 53% overall.
“When you have two guards that are both making plays, it puts the other team in a tough position of what to take away,” Clark noted. “We’re definitely shooting it well and playing off each other effectively.”
Clark recently set a WNBA record with 19 assists earlier this season and scored a career-high 31 points against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky. With this victory, the Fever improved to 17-16, marking their first time above .500 this season as they work their way into playoff contention. In contrast, the Wings dropped to 9-23 and are trying to recover from a slow start due to injuries to key players.
The Fever’s recent performance has been strong, boasting a 6-1 record since the Olympic break, with three of those victories on the road. Indiana will play six consecutive home games, starting Wednesday against the last-place Los Angeles Sparks.
“They’ve laid it out there. We just keep talking about emptying our tank,” said Indiana coach Christie Sides. “I’m proud of the road games, and we keep talking about momentum, keeping our foot on the gas.”
The game was marked by a controversial moment when Ogunbowale was faulted for not allowing Mitchell a safe landing spot after making her eighth three-pointer, leading to a technical foul for Ogunbowale after the Wings challenged and lost. This incident allowed Indiana to score five points on that possession, narrowing their deficit as they rallied to take the lead.
Satou Sabally provided a strong performance for the Wings, scoring 25 points, while Natasha Howard added 18 points and nine assists. NaLyssa Smith contributed 14 points and eight rebounds for the Fever.
