Fever’s Star Clark Sidelines for Tough Matchup: What’s Next?

Caitlin Clark, the standout player for the Indiana Fever, will not participate in Tuesday’s game against the Atlanta Dream, marking her fifth consecutive absence due to a left quadriceps strain sustained during a close match with the New York Liberty on May 24. Head coach Stephanie White confirmed the decision, indicating that while Clark has begun some practice sessions, the team is exercising caution in her recovery process.

“We’re ready to start ramping back up,” White stated. “(Clark’s) been allowed to do some practicing, not everything. We’re gonna be smart and we’re gonna be cautious and we’re gonna play the long game and work her back in very intentionally.” Clark, who has yet to miss a game in her collegiate or WNBA career, expressed optimism about her rehabilitation, taking it “day by day.” She had previously hinted at a potential return for the Fever’s next game against the Liberty on June 14.

In addition to Clark, Fever wing Sophie Cunningham is also facing challenges, having missed games since May 30 due to an ankle injury. Coach White shared insights on their gradual reintegration into practice routines, underscoring the importance of assessing their fitness levels for live gameplay.

As the team navigates these challenges, they have signed guard Aari McDonald to a hardship contract. Since joining, McDonald has made a notable impact, averaging 9.5 points and 3.5 assists in 26 minutes of play.

Though the Indiana Fever have faced adversity with key players sidelined, their recent performance includes a commendable win over the Chicago Sky, showcasing the team’s depth and resilience. As they work toward reintegrating their stars, fans remain hopeful for an exciting return to full strength as the season progresses.
