The Boston Red Sox are set to wear their distinctive green uniforms during Friday night’s game against the New York Yankees at Fenway Park. This game kicks off a three-game series between the two rivals.
These green uniforms, known as the “Fenway Greens”, are part of the Nike City Connect collection introduced in 2021. They draw inspiration from Fenway Park’s iconic Green Monster wall and feature white lettering and yellow numbers, reminiscent of the historic manual scoreboard at the ballpark. Additionally, the collar of the jersey is embroidered with “1912,” marking the year Fenway Park was inaugurated.
The City Connect initiative allows MLB teams to sport alternate designs that reflect the local culture and history of their cities. While the Boston Red Sox have embraced this concept with their stylish offerings, the New York Yankees and the Oakland Athletics are the only teams in Major League Baseball that have not adopted these alternate uniforms.
This addition of the Fenway Greens to the Red Sox’s attire not only showcases their rich heritage but adds a fresh and vibrant touch to the game, enhancing the overall fan experience. The blend of tradition and innovation in their uniform design represents the spirit of Boston, making this series even more exciting.
