Des Moines, Iowa — FEMA is offering free resources aimed at strengthening and securing homes, regardless of whether they suffered damage from the severe storms this summer.

FEMA representatives will be available in O’Brien County at the Downtown Hardware Hank store, located at 816 Third Ave., Sheldon, Iowa 51201, from October 1 to 4, between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Residents can engage directly with FEMA specialists at local home improvement stores to receive answers to their questions about:

Effective strategies for preventing future disaster damage.

Rebuilding techniques for homes.

Ways to minimize disaster risks for both homeowners and renters.

Assistance is accessible to all homeowners, including those not directly impacted by the recent storms.

For inquiries on enhancing home safety, individuals are encouraged to contact the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Helpline at 833-336-2487.

Residents of Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Humboldt, Lyon, Monona, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pottawattamie, Scott, Sioux, and Woodbury counties who experienced flood-related damage or storm-related expenses may qualify for FEMA grants, which can help with temporary housing, home repairs, and other disaster-related needs.
