FEMA Offers Free Resources to Strengthen Homes Amid Storm Concerns

FEMA is offering free resources aimed at strengthening and securing homes, regardless of whether they were impacted by the severe storms this summer.

From October 1 to October 4, FEMA specialists will be available at the Downtown Hardware Hank store located at 816 Third Ave., Sheldon, Iowa, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage with FEMA representatives who can answer questions and provide insights on:

– Effective strategies to prevent future damage from disasters.
– Methods for rebuilding homes.
– Advice on minimizing disaster risks for both homeowners and renters.

This support is accessible to all homeowners, not just those who suffered damage from the recent storms. For inquiries on enhancing your home’s safety, you can reach the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Helpline at 833-336-2487.

Individuals or businesses in Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Humboldt, Lyon, Monona, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pottawattamie, Scott, Sioux, and Woodbury counties that experienced flood-related damage or storm expenses may be eligible for FEMA grants. These grants can assist with temporary housing, home repairs, and other disaster-related needs.

FEMA’s disaster recovery assistance is available to everyone, irrespective of race, color, religion, nationality, sex, age, disability, English proficiency, or economic status. If you or someone you know has faced discrimination, you can contact FEMA toll-free at 833-285-7448. For Spanish assistance, press 2. If you’re using a relay service, such as video relay or captioned telephone service, please provide FEMA with the number for that service.
