Authorities are focusing their investigation on a specific area following a brutal acid attack that occurred in Forsyth Park, Savannah’s largest public park. The FBI is requesting assistance from residents living west of the park, specifically between West Park Avenue and West, to examine their doorbell and security cameras from the night of December 10th. The attack resulted in the victim, Ashley Wasielewski, suffering life-altering injuries.
The incident, which took place around 8:15 PM, has left the community apprehensive. Quamea Holt, a local resident, expressed her concerns about safety in the park, saying, “It gives a scary feeling to people who are walking out there.” As the investigation unfolds, authorities believe the suspect entered the park from the west, but their movements afterward remain unclear. Residents in the area are being urged to review their video footage from 7 PM to 8:30 PM to help gather potential evidence.
Nana Lichty, who frequently walks in Forsyth Park, is actively participating in the investigation by checking her security camera. She stated, “We want to find out who did this assault on Ashley. That’s a good enough reason for me to check my Ring from that night.”
The importance of capturing even the smallest detail cannot be overstated, as retired FBI agent CM Sturgis noted. He explained that the victim was attacked from behind, making identification difficult without visual evidence. He advised residents to look for unexpected occurrences, such as unusual vehicles or individuals running by that might aid the investigation.
David Knapp, another local resident, emphasized the community’s role in solving the crime. He hopes that everyone in the area recognizes the importance of contributing to the investigation. As the search continues for the suspect, the evidence gathered could prove vital in bringing justice to Ashley Wasielewski and ensuring the safety of the Forsyth Park area. The collaborative effort of the community could serve as a beacon of hope, as they unite to support one another during this challenging time.
