In a tragic event at Namunamu Settlement in Mataso, Ra, a couple in their mid-thirties passed away due to suspected food poisoning on Sunday night, after reportedly consuming a type of pufferfish known locally as “soki soki.” The couple’s teenage daughter, who also ate the fish, is currently being treated at Lautoka Aspen Hospital. The family experienced severe symptoms of vomiting and weakness soon after their meal. They were rushed to Rakiraki Hospital, but unfortunately, the woman passed away en route, and the man succumbed at the hospital. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to confirm the cause of death.
