In a heartbreaking incident at Namunamu Settlement in Mataso, Ra, a couple in their mid-thirties tragically lost their lives due to suspected food poisoning on Sunday night. The poisoning occurred after they consumed a type of pufferfish locally known as “soki soki.” The couple’s teenage daughter, who also ingested the fish, is currently receiving medical treatment at Lautoka Aspen Hospital. The family began experiencing severe symptoms such as vomiting and weakness shortly after their meal. Although they were rushed to Rakiraki Hospital, sadly, the woman passed away during transit, and the man succumbed at the hospital. A post-mortem examination has been planned to ascertain the exact cause of death.
