A tragic incident has occurred in Namunamu settlement, Mataso, Ra, where a couple, Peni Bainivalu and his wife Seini Josefini Sauraki, both aged 35, have died due to fish poisoning. The couple consumed puffer fish eggs that had been caught by a family member from a local river, initially intended as food for their dog. The fatal consumption occurred on Sunday night.

The community is grappling with this tragedy, and the couple’s bodies were transported back to their village yesterday afternoon for their final rites. Such incidents highlight the dangers associated with consuming certain types of fish, particularly those with toxic substances.
