Fatal Madison Crash Triggers Highway 51 Closures, Investigation Underway

Madison, WI – Authorities are currently investigating a tragic accident that occurred on Monday morning on the east side of Madison. The incident took place along the 1900 block of South Stoughton Road, where a car struck a tree and subsequently caught fire.

The Madison Police Department reported that they received the call at approximately 11:40 a.m. on November 17, 2025, regarding the vehicle burning near the southbound Highway 51 frontage road close to Buckeye Road. Upon arrival, emergency responders found the car fully engulfed in flames, and unfortunately, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ongoing investigations have led to the closure of both northbound Highway 51 and the east side frontage road, specifically between Pflaum Road and Buckeye Road, as authorities work diligently to gather more information. In light of the situation, they are advising motorists to seek alternative routes to avoid delays.
