The incident involved a 2008 Ford Focus, which was operated by a 31-year-old woman from Huntington, Oregon. As the vehicle was traveling southbound on Fort Hall Hill, it attempted to overtake a semi-truck and trailer despite being in a no-passing zone. Unfortunately, this maneuver resulted in a collision with a northbound 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 32-year-old man from Nampa.
Regrettably, the driver of the Ford Focus succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and his passenger, a 35-year-old woman, were transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance. Thankfully, it has been confirmed that all occupants involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
The crash necessitated the closure of the roadway for approximately four hours, but it has since been cleared and all lanes have reopened. The Idaho State Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and the dangers of attempting to pass in restricted zones, reinforcing the need for careful driving practices on the road.
