McDonald’s will extend its $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to a memo cited by Bloomberg, the majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to prolong the promotion, which started on June 25.
The meal deal will be available at approximately 93% of restaurants across the country, although the duration may differ by location, with some franchises extending it through August.
As consumers struggle with rising food costs, particularly in the fast casual sector, this promotion has proven beneficial for McDonald’s. A recent analysis by foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai revealed that the launch of the meal deal resulted in a significant increase in visitor numbers at McDonald’s outlets, indicating strong consumer interest.
The success of this promotion has put pressure on other fast casual restaurants to offer competitive deals. For instance, Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, and Sonic has established a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
Burger King announced in late May that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available longer than McDonald’s deal and planned to introduce new items within its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the trend, offering a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
