McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for a few more weeks, responding to the needs of consumers facing rising food prices. According to reports, a memo from the fast food giant indicates that a majority of U.S. McDonald’s locations will continue to offer the promotion beyond its initial four-week run that started on June 25.
The deal will be available at approximately 93% of restaurants nationwide, though the duration may vary by location, with some extending the offer until August. This promotion has proven successful for McDonald’s, especially as many consumers are feeling the pinch on their wallets during this period of high food costs.
Foot traffic analytics from Placer.ai revealed a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s following the introduction of the meal deal, highlighting its positive reception. This success has prompted other fast casual dining chains to respond competitively, launching their own promotions. Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic now features a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box in addition to its ongoing $5 Taco Discovery Box and its Cravings Value Menu.
In response to the competitive landscape, Burger King declared that its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle would be available for a longer duration than McDonald’s offer, alongside the addition of new items in its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also entered the promotional mix with a $3 breakfast bundle and is now offering a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
