McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for a few more weeks, according to a memo from the fast-food giant obtained by Bloomberg. The promotion, which initially launched on June 25, will be available at approximately 93% of U.S. locations, although the duration of the deal may vary by restaurant, with some extending it until August.
This decision comes as consumers face rising food costs, particularly in the fast casual dining sector. The bundle has proven effective for McDonald’s, as a recent report from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicated a significant increase in customer visits following the introduction of the deal.
The success of McDonald’s promotion has prompted competitors to respond with their own value offers. Arby’s is now providing a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its $5 Taco Discovery Box and an expanded Cravings Value Menu.
Burger King, anticipating the competitive landscape, announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would last longer than the McDonald’s deal, and it has also introduced new items on its “Fiery Menu.” Additionally, Wendy’s has launched a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag” to stay in the value game.
